Outlook keeps asking for a password: what should you check?
Repeated Outlook password prompts do not always mean the password is wrong. Changed credentials, a session that cannot renew, an incompatible sign-in method or a company policy can be involved. First check whether you can sign in through the provider’s official website and whether one person or the whole team is affected.
Understand the situation before making changes
Record whether you use classic Outlook, new Outlook or Outlook for Mac, and which provider hosts the mailbox. Their settings and authentication methods differ. Instructions for a personal account may not fit a Microsoft 365 business account.
If webmail works but Outlook fails, investigate the client and its connection. If both fail, involve the administrator to review the account and policies. This comparison helps narrow the investigation; it does not prove a cause.
Risks to review
- Deleting a profile without identifying local files and pending messages.
- Disabling MFA or approving a sign-in request you did not initiate.
- Repeated attempts that lock the account.
Safe recommendations
- Type the official provider address into your browser rather than following a suspicious prompt.
- Record the complete error and any recent password, phone or device change.
- Check device time, connectivity and pending Outlook updates.
- Ask the administrator to review sign-in before removing credentials or creating another profile.
When to seek specialized help
- If prompts keep returning or several employees cannot use email, Soportered can review the account, device and authentication to identify the appropriate fix.
- Tell us when it started, how many people are affected and the exact error. Do not send passwords, verification codes or confidential files in the initial message.
